How this can be free
The work happens on your machine
Every tool here is a WebAssembly build of a real codec — MozJPEG, libwebp, libavif, libheif, OxiPNG, pdf-lib, pdf.js — running inside your browser tab. There is no upload step, no processing queue and no server bill. Our cost for your thousandth conversion is identical to our cost for your first: nothing.
We show ads. We never see files.
Ads on the page pay for the domain and the development. They sit in the margins and after the content, never next to a download button. The advertising code and your file never meet, because your file is never transmitted anywhere for anything to meet it.
You can verify all of this
Open developer tools, watch the Network tab, and convert something. The counter in the header does the same measurement live: it hooks every network API the page can use and counts binary payloads. It reads 0 B, and it would say so loudly if that ever changed.
Common questions
Are my files really not uploaded?
Correct, and you can check rather than trust. Open your browser’s developer tools, switch to the Network tab, and run any tool. No request carries your file, because there is no server that would receive one. Every converter and compressor here is a WebAssembly module running inside your own browser tab.
Then how is it free?
We show ads on the page. Because the processing runs on your device, our cost per file is zero — there is no bandwidth bill and no compute bill to recover, so there is nothing to charge you for. We see the ad impression; we never see the file.
Is there a file size or daily limit?
No. Limits on other tools exist because someone pays for the upload. Here the only ceiling is your own device’s memory.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Install Filestay from your browser and every tool keeps working with no connection at all — which is the clearest possible demonstration that nothing is being sent anywhere.
