Bangladesh works to 45 × 55 mm, a frame that is neither the European 35 × 45 nor anything near square, paired with an unusually wide head window of 60–75%. E-passport applicants also attend in person, where fingerprints, an iris scan and a signature are collected.
How much of the frame the head has to fill
Sixty and seventy-five per cent of 55 mm come out at 33 mm and 41.25 mm, so the face may sit anywhere in an 8.25 mm band — close to twice the latitude a 35 × 45 allows at 70–80%. At 600 dpi that is 780 to 974 pixels within a 1063 × 1299 picture. The 9:11 outline runs squarer than 35 × 45, and settling near 37 mm keeps you clear of both limits.
What gets this one sent back
- A wide range makes it easy to drift small, and the smaller you sit, the more wall shows and the more room a shadow has.
- Front view means square to the lens, not a three-quarter turn; the shoulders drift before the face does when you relax.
- Headwear that is not religious comes off, and a religious covering still leaves the whole face uncovered and unshadowed.
Half a metre clear of the wall so your shadow falls behind you, camera at about 1.5 metres so the lens does not widen your nose, soft light from the front. Take several.
Getting the print right
45×55 mm is a physical instruction; 1063×1299 pixels is what it becomes at 600 dpi. The head band follows the same conversion — 60–75% of 55 mm is 33.0–41.3 mm, or 779–974 pixels in the exported file.
No digital ceiling is published for this one, which means the print is the binding version and the file only has to survive being printed. Use the sheet rather than sending a single image to a shop — several copies at true size on one page costs the same and covers the spare everyone ends up needing.
Print at 100%, not "fit to page" — the default shrink is invisible to you and measurable to whoever checks it.
How it works
- 01Add a recent photoFacing the camera, plain wall behind. HEIC from an iPhone works directly.
- 02Frame it to 45×55 mmDrag and zoom until your head fills 60–75% of the frame height, matching the dashed guide.
- 03Check the warningsThe border area is measured against "plain white" and flagged if it is uneven.
- 04Download or printSave the 1063×1299 JPG, or take a print sheet with several copies laid out at true size.
