A single scan usually contains several documents. The bank posts one PDF holding twelve months of statements; the registry returns one file with the deed, the plan and the certificate stacked together; a scanner turns a whole folder into one 200-page object. Splitting is how that becomes something you can actually send, file or sign separately.
When you need this
- One scan holds several documents and a portal wants them uploaded one at a time.
- A statement covering a year has to be sent as individual months.
- A book or manual is easier to read, or to print, in chapters.
- A file is over an upload limit and the form accepts more than one attachment.
Three ways to cut
By page ranges when you know the structure — type 1-3, 4-9, 10-end and get three files. One file per page when every page is its own document, which is what a batch of scanned receipts or certificates usually is. Every N pages for something regular, like a two-page form repeated forty times.
What comes out
A single range gives you one PDF. Several ranges arrive as a zip built on your device, with each part named after the pages it holds — invoice-p1-3.pdf, invoice-p4-9.pdf. Nothing is renumbered or re-rendered: the pages are copied object by object, so text stays text and quality is untouched.
Long documents
Page thumbnails are painted only as they scroll into view, so a 300-page file opens as fast as a three-page one. The grid stays responsive because it is never holding three hundred images at once.
